Lisa O’Neill, Consultant (Family Law)

Lisa has extensive experience in all aspects of family law and child protection. She has worked in this area since her admission in 1988, in the private and government sectors, working on complex property settlements, child support, spousal maintenance and children’s issues involving relocation, Hague convention (international child abduction) and child abuse. She also has experience in developing child policy and legislation, particularly in the child protection area.

For 18 years Lisa worked as a senior case officer for CSA making decisions about departure applications. She has an excellent understanding of this legislation and its practical application. She has written papers on child support, taught about child support at university level and trained lawyers in this area.

Lisa has worked as a Registrar in the Family Court and assisted hundred of couples to reach agreement about their property settlements. Her co-authored paper on the conciliation conference was published in the Australian Journal of Family Law.

Lisa has a special interest in children’s matters and is an Independent Children’s Lawyer. She has been involved in many long trials in the family court on difficult issues such as allegations of sexual abuse and parental rejection.

Lisa has a commitment to solving disputes by alternative dispute resolution. She trained as a mediator at CDR Associates in Boulder Colorado in 1990. She is a member of the Toowoomba and Surrounds Collaborative Law group.

Lisa also has experience in administrative/disciplinary matters for teachers, accountants and medical radiation technologists and is the Chair of the Professional Standards Board for Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys. She is an experienced advocate having appeared in inquests and court and tribunal hearings.

Lisa is a board member of Fairholme College.
